According to the American Meteor Society, a huge fireball was spotted by dozens of people from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin Sunday night, December 7, 2025 at approximately 10:59pm. It was a meteor traveling toward the southeast that many reported seeing fragments come off of it which was confirmed by backyard videos, too.

As of the date of this writing, the American Meteor Society has 81 confirmed reports of this meteor from Illinois and other states in the region including parts of Canada, too. That makes it one of the most widely-viewed meteor events so far in 2025 and the year isn't over yet.
