It's no secret that Illinois has a lot of geese and the state also has more than its fair share of tornados. A new video share shows that sometimes those two phenomena can happen at the same time.

I saw this fun video shared this week by an Illinois hunter who was apparently after some ducks based on his description. What he witnessed was what appeared to be a bunch of geese forming a vortex of sorts.

Why do Illinois geese sometimes fly in circles?

That's a spectacular question for which I don't have a solid answer for. I've heard that geese sometimes fly in circles if they get caught in an updraft. It tends to disorient the birds and they can appear to form a "goose twister" until they get acclimated again.

I've seen geese fly in a v-formation often as this is their way to conserve energy. Can't say that I've seen a goose twister before - until now. Thanks, Illinois duck hunter with a smartphone camera.
