As you have no doubt seen your utility bills skyrocket over the past few years, you can thank the numerous data centers that are sprouting up all over Illinois as they are at least partially to blame because of their massive energy demands.

Full disclosure: Along with being a radio nerd for nearly 43 years, I am also a certified computer technician. That fact normally isn't important, but I want to emphasize that I am NOT anti-technology. As a matter of fact, I'm a big fan, but even I have witnessed massive data centers that demand tons of electricity to do their thing. It's a proven fact that utility companies have to pay more for their power due to increased demands from data centers and Illinois is one of the fastest growth locations where these tech hubs are popping up. As more people continue to use artificial intelligence for work and play, more data centers are created or expanded. I am of the opinion that these data centers should be made to bear the weight of increased energy demands instead of regular citizens like you and me watching our bank accounts drained just to keep the air conditioning on. Yes, data centers are a necessity and can be used as an advantage in the world we live in, but the electricity demands and costs for residents has gone out of control. These data headquarters in Illinois are at least partially to blame.
