Popular Backpack Blower Made in Illinois Recalled for Fire Hazard
If you have a backpack blower, there's a good chance it's a popular brand that's manufactured in Illinois. If that's the case, you should know there's an urgent recall due to a potential fire hazard.
The good news is that the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission says there have been no known injuries associated with this recall yet. The bad news is the defect could lead to a very serious burn danger.
The USCPSC says that ECHO 59.7cc gas-powered backpack blowers with the model numbers PB-5810H and PB-5810T have a fuel supply line can leak gas, posing a fire hazard.
Here are the serial numbers affected:
PB-5810H - P61312001001 to P61312002590
PB-5810T - P61212001001 to P61212004155
They estimate that this affects approximately 3,900 backpack blowers made in Lake Zurich, Illinois. If you have one of these Echo backpack blowers affected by this recall, you should stop using them immediately and contact the Echo dealer where you purchased the unit and schedule a warranty repair. They say do not use the backpack blower until that repair is made to prevent a potentially dangerous accident.
I can understand why these blowers are so popular. Having the weight of the unit on your back compared with dragging hardware across your yard would be handy. Happy to hear that no one has had their back severely burned as of this writing as the warnings have hopefully been issued quick enough to prevent that from happening.
