I just saw this stunning graphic that's just been shared by the Chicago office of the National Weather Service. It shows that their preliminary rainfall estimates for several places in Illinois reached a remarkable 8 inches of total precipitation from the night of August 18 continuing into the morning hours of August 19.

As they mentioned in their analysis, the hardest hit parts of Illinois were between the I-80 and I-88 corridors which included big time flash flooding near Mokena and Paw Paw, Illinois.

The rain storms aren't over yet, either. There are still multiple chances of thunderstorms producing rain over much of Illinois over the next several days. We'll see what those rainfall totals amount to once the official counting by the National Weather Service is complete.
