I Think My Walls Are Closing In
It is times like these that set one’s mind into overload and with that can come some creative vibes. One such vibe came to me as I sat down and pondered the world we now live in.
I was born in’53 in Brooklyn, New York near the sea.
They told me it was the home of the brave and land of the free.
I still believe that to this day,
but boy has it changed in a great big way.
Back then I’d play on the sidewalks and stick-ball in the streets,
and now I look at pictures of emptiness and sidewalks with no feet.
So the plan is to stay home and do things I don’t want… like watch TV.
But I am a radio guy and for sure, unless it is baseball, that is just not for me.
We have all been asked to do things like self-isolate,
but I am finding that is making me constantly fill up my plate.
So exercise I must do to keep me active and on the go,
so I am giving my fingers their daily workout by watching old sports using my remote.
I do find myself more than usual checking out Facebook,
then wishing I paid more attention to how my mother cooked.
I am fortunate that I still have my radio show,
but I do feel for those who lost their jobs though.
As I look out the window and think about playing stick-ball on those Brooklyn Streets,
I can’t help but wonder what life will be like in a few weeks.
I do believe this virus will be beaten and the markets will rebound,
but most off all it is my hope for all Americans that their toilet paper will be found.
This is what happens when you have too much time on your hands.
