Hy-Vee Closing 79 Wahlburger Locations Including All in Illinois
The more things change, the more the stay the same and vice versa. After Hy-Vee incorporated numerous Wahlburger locations into many of their stores years ago, that process is now being reversed as the chain is now closing 79 locations and that includes all in Illinois.
I saw Restaurant Business share the news today that Wahlburgers in Hy-Vee is no more. The press release indicates that all of those Market Grille locations in Hy-Vee that were handed over to Wahlburgers years ago are now transitioning back to the in-store Hy-Vee brand. Grocery Dive confirms this is the case.
According to the Restaurant Business report, this move is fine with Wahlburgers who said in a kind of snarky way that they're not in the grocery store business and want to focus on restaurants. Fair enough. The comments from Hy-Vee seem to reflect the same attitude from their side.
The press release says this transition to shutting down Wahlburgers in Illinois Hy-Vee stores and other places will happen during the month of February before they begin to put the Market Grille brand back in its place.
