Illinois can be a scary place, but enough about the driving experience. If you think the Land of Lincoln is frightening sometimes in real life, you should see it in the movies including 11 terrifying flicks that have been set in Illinois.

Just out of curiosity since this is currently the month of October, I did some digging and found some great resources that have exhaustive lists of the movies where Illinois is one of the stars. Letterboxd is one of them and IMDb is another. I even found some on the Illinois sub-Reddit.

It's important to note the difference between a movie being "set in" versus a movie that was "shot in" Illinois. Most movie aficionados know that Halloween was shot in numerous California locations, but the fictional town of Haddonfield, Illinois is where it was "set" in.
