3 Smells that Could Mean Your Missouri Home is in Big Danger

If I never have to share another story about a home explosion in Missouri, it will be too soon. There have been multiple incidents recently of Missouri homes that have exploded seemingly without warning.

Rotten Eggs

Perhaps the most important smell that could mean imminent danger is the rotten egg smell. It's almost always an indication that you have a gas leak of some kind. It could be something as simple as a gas appliance, but it's always dangerous and can result in tragedy with very little other warning.

Smoke or burning odor

This is one that's easy to dismiss as something as simple as a laptop or computer that's running hot. Don't ask me how I know. Any sensation where you think you smell something "hot" means you could have an imminent (or current) fire danger. This is an easy one to overlook in the colder months when furnaces are running. If the heat smell has a tinge of smoke, have professionals check to make sure something more serious isn't going on.

Smell of sweet chemicals

If you smell something like paint thinner or paint itself, but haven't painted recently, you could have a HVAC refrigerant leak. It's also possible that you could have cleaning products that are suddenly near heat. Either way, that's a potentially dangerous situation.

Normally when there are bad smells in our home, I am blamed (rightly so more often than not). It's no laughing matter though as one smell that just seems odd could be the sign that you could be in danger. If knowing this only saves one person, it will be more than worth it.
