The Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County is hosting haunted cemetery tours of historic Woodland Cemetery (1020 South 5th). The tours take place each Saturday in October (except on the 3), and even on, October 31. According to the Quincy Herald Whig, the tours will be smaller to help with social distancing and will have two separate tour themes.

The first tour will be of the Rogers Vault, and that will take place on October 10 and 31. You will learn about the history of the vault, the Rogers Family, and the interesting request made by one of the family members.

The second tour will be of the Woodland Civil War Legacy and those tours will take place on October 17 and 24. There are several different times to take both tours, and for more information and to purchase your tickets (which are $15 each) you can call the HSQAC office at 217-222-1835.

I have always wanted to know the history of the vault in Woodland Cemetery, and now I get my chance. If you have not taken a walk through this cemetery, it’s a must. John Wood and is family are buried there, among many others who made a difference in the history of Quincy.
