This storybook 2021 season for Hannibal winds up with anything but a happy ending, as they are shut out 31-0 by the Smithville Warriors Friday in the Class 4 Show-Me Bowl at Faurot Field in Columbia.

While the Pirates have seen adversity the last couple of weeks and were able to bounce back and overcome, that was not the case Friday, as Smithville showed why they have been the top-ranked team in Class 4 all season.

Hannibal got the ball first and were driving when Courtland Watson threw the first of three pass interceptions. The Warriors scored on a 54 yard touchdown pass on their second offensive play, which, sadly, set the tone for the day.

Smithville's touchdowns came early in the second quarter and halfway through the third quarter, with a field goal and a late TD to seal the deal.

Despite the loss, the Pirates made a lot of memories for their fans this season, not the least of which is the memory of the Hannibal community rallying behind their ball club this week in preparation for their Show-Me Bowl appearance.

Make no mistake - the Hannibal Pirates will reload, as they've done for so many years - and will be ready come August to make a whole new season of memories.
