A national website specializing in travel has just called out Hannibal, Missouri for having one of the most picture-perfect main street areas in the state and they're not wrong.

If you're a tourist, this is almost certainly the first place you'll go in Hannibal

World Atlas has just named 11 main streets in Missouri as "picture-perfect" and Hannibal's downtown area tops their list. Here's part of what they said about Hannibal:

"Hannibal hasn't lost its glamorous and historic touch. Hannibal’s blend of history, storytelling, and architecture makes its downtown one of Missouri’s most enchanting."

They go on to praise Hannibal's Main Street for the variety of things you can do there and it's not just the history of Mark Twain's Boyhood Home either. World Atlas seemed enchanted by the many quaint shops that line Hannibal's Main Street which include antiques, ice cream, the old-fashioned general store and the many other businesses that have made sure the downtown keeps the vintage vibe.

Full disclosure: I was born and raised in Hannibal, so it's likely that I'm not completely objective about my birth place. I will admit that Hannibal has changed over the years and not always for the better, but that can be said about any Missouri place. I still proudly think of Hannibal as my hometown and love when national sites give it a shout out. It's not perfect, but downtown Hannibal deserves credit for always working hard to keep the historical vibe that made it famous.
