The rule of thumb on tipping is that if you get good service you should at least tip 15 to 20% of your bill to your server. Unfortunately, that does not always happen. Depending on how old you are, in some cases, it doesn't happen at all. For years I have always heard that women were the worst tippers. Some would even go as far as to return to the table after their husband left a tip and would take part of that tip back. Now, I have never seen that occur before, but have heard that from several servers I know.

It looks like women may have to take a back seat to Millennials when it comes to bad tipping habits. According to a recent survey conducted for CreditCards.com by GfK Custom Research of North America, 10% of people between the ages of 18 and 37 leave no tip for a server at a restaurant and 3% of older diners do likewise.

Also according to the survey, people from the south and west, parents with young children, lower earners and less educated people are more apt to leave a lesser tip than normal for their server.
