My dad taught me early in my Missouri life to be careful who I run with. That advice has served me well as I was fortunate to be able to avoid contact with gangs. Not everyone is so lucky. There's a new study just shared by 24/7 Wall St which names the gangs in each state that you need to worry about. They're not wrong. It's a who's who of trouble.

I won't name names or groups, but I have had a few friends in my life that were previously involved in gangs. The stories they told me were terrifying including one where a friend was beaten within an inch of his life when he dared to leave the group he was in. He kept a rifle in a corner of the radio studio where we worked together for a reason. He was always aware that any number of people could try to end him.

My friend did not choose to join a gang because he wanted trouble. He was born in a tough part of the state and it was a matter of survival. If you were never forced to make such a dire decision, be thankful. Not everyone is so fortunate.
