This new revelation by 24/7 Wall St caught me by surprise. It's a ranking of the countries that own farmland in America and they break it down by counties, too. The nations that own farmland in Illinois were not what I expected.

#1 - Italy - owns farmland in Macon County, Illinois

Italy owns a stunning 1,394,083 acres of farmland in the Midwest. Doesn't that mean pasta bowls should be cheaper here, too?

#2 - Isreal - owns farmland in Fulton County, Illinois

Israel owns 23,561 acres of farmland in the Midwest.

#3 - Venezuela - owns farmland in De Kalb County, Illinois

Venezuela owns 14,789 acres of farmland in the Midwest.

Did you know that the foreign nation that owns the most farmland in America isn't China, but it's Canada! We should really import more back bacon I think.

What difference does it make what foreign countries own farmland in America? Normally I would not care about things like this, but when it involves who controls the food supply, we all should care.
