As I write this, most of Missouri is enjoying one of the mildest Decembers ever with temperatures expected to soar into the 60's and maybe 70's over the next week. Still, the Farmer's Almanac has pinpointed a two week period in January when the next big snow could be coming.

If you don't like the weather in Missouri, just wait 10 minutes and it will change

Missouri Should Brace for Big January Snow, Says Farmers’ Almanac

While I respect the history and legacy of Farmer's Almanac, I will admit that I don't rely on their weather forecasts for making actual plans. I know how hard it is even for the most sophisticated computer weather models to accurately predict when the next storm system will arrive just looking at the next 14 days. However, Farmer's Almanac has been using their own formula to forecast weather for generations and many old school folks swear by it (in a nice way).

Out of curiosity I took a look at what Farmer's Almanac thinks will happen in Missouri in January and found two weeks in particular that look troublesome. While they say warmer temps will continue in Missouri leading to showers in the southern part of the state between January 4 and January 7, Farmer's Almanac warns the next week will see a big cold snap. They warn that between January 8 and January 11 "temperatures drop, snow moves into the region." That's not all. They also see the period between January 16 and January 19 as another series of days when Missouri could see "moderate snowfall".

Farmer's Almanac aren't the only ones thinking January will see an uptick of snow in our region. I saw this share by Chris Sowers on Facebook a few days ago which shows a 46-day ensemble computer model run showing snow will once again invade our lives soon.

What's the truth? There's simply no way to know for sure until we see what the National Weather Service has to say once we get closer to January. If you have faith in what the Farmer's Almanac says, you should go ahead and plan for a snowy January now.
