Eh? The Strange Story of a Midwestern City Controlled by Canada
How would you like to live in a Midwestern city, but have to go through Canadian customs every day? That's the reality for residents of a Minnesota town.
I found this fun little Midwestern/American/Canadian town fact trending on Digg recently. It's the story of Northwest Angle (Angle Inlet) which is technically in Minnesota, but...here's a brief description from the video share explaining what their life is like:
In order for people who live in the Northwest Angle to travel to the rest of the continental US they've had to cross into Canada and go through customs. For many people this has meant four border crossings a day. The inconvenience has even prompted residents to create a 37 mile long ice road across Lake of the Woods. Due to severe weather this year, however, that passage was shut down.
The (Canadian) struggle for these people is real.
Is it a pain to live in Minnesota yet have to abide by Canadian guidelines? Sure. But, if you are the kind of person that likes to view the world through a "glass half full" instead of "glass half empty" sort of way, it's great news if you're a fan of Bob & Doug McKenzie.
Does this mean there are now American hosers? We can only dream. Now, let's have a Canadian bacon pizza to celebrate.
