I could have warned them myself based on my own experiences, but a food delivery driver is now swearing they'll never enter East St. Louis, Illinois again after what just happened to them recently.

I saw this story just shared on the Illinois sub-Reddit and I feel for the person this happened to. They say they do Door Dash deliveries on the weekends for some extra cash, but their journeys recently took them into East St. Louis, Illinois.

What I learned last night about East St Louis while doordashing. How does everyone else feel about this area?

Non-existent street lights and potholes? Check. That's East St. Louis to a T. Oh, and the fireworks being shot into their car? Be glad it was only fireworks. I definitely identify with their impression that they were delivering "in a warzone". That was the exact vibe I got the last time I entered that troubled city. Smoldering buildings on fire and people walking past them like that was normal because sadly it probably was. Their words "That was my first and last time in that area lol" were also the promise I made myself when I escaped East St. Louis. Never again unless I absolutely have to and even then I'll figure out another option somehow.
