There is an epidemic in this country that is going unnoticed and fortunately there is an organization trying to end it. That organization is known as “Sleep in Heavenly Peace”.

Across the U.S. too many children go without a bed - or even a pillow - to sleep on. These children end up sleeping on couches, blankets, and even floors. That's where Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) comes in. Their goal is to make sure that no child is without a bed.

They are a group of volunteers dedicated to building, assembling and delivering top-notch bunk beds and twin sized single beds  to children and families in need. Thanks to some national exposure from household names like Mike Rowe and CNN, by June of 2018, Sleep in Heavenly Peace grew to roughly 40 active chapters, one of those chapters in located in our area in Liberty. And fast forward to right now, they’ve grown to become a national organization made up of 182 chapters who are out to solve this national crisis.

The S.H.P. group holds local “build days” where volunteers work up to four hours in making the beds and staining them. They also provide the mattress, sheets and comforters as well. The tools and materials are provided. Once completed, they also deliver and set up those beds to those in need.

The local Liberty Chapter is led by their President Darren Funk who, along with his board, reviews applicant’s requests for beds. If you are in need of a bed, contact Darren at darren.funk@shpbeds.org. The Local Liberty Chapter serves Adams, Brown and Pike Counties in Illinois as well as Marion, Lewis, Ralls and Pike Counties in Missouri.
