Did You Know that Marvel’s “Star-Lord” is from Missouri?
Movies about Marvel characters are all the rage these days. Did you know that one of the most famous characters from Guardians of the Galaxy is really from Missouri?
In case you think I'm delusional, I want to be clear that I'm talking about a comic book world and not the real thing. Between you and me, I prefer the comic book world lately. I had someone mention rather matter of fact the other day that Star-Lord is a Missourian. That led to a blinding amount of research on my part which confirmed they were not lying.
Here's a key scene from Guardians of the Galaxy back in 2014 where Chris Pratt...er...I mean "Star-Lord" declares his Missouri citizenship in the most unique way. NOTE: some rather sharp somewhat-NSFW language here in case you forgot.
Marvel Cinematic Universe made this conversation a permanent part of their lore:
"You're from Earth."
"I'm not from Earth, I'm from Missouri."
"Yeah, that's on Earth, dip****."
Yep. That sounds like one of my Missouri brothers talking there. Marvel Fandom goes even deeper into Peter Quill's comic backstory:
Peter Jason Quill was born in St. Charles, Missouri in 1980,[2] the son of a human mother, Meredith Quill and a Celestial father, Ego.[1] Ego left Earth not long after he and Meredith conceived Peter, so Peter was raised only by his mother. His mother nicknamed him "Star-Lord."
In case you haven't had enough Marvel in movies lately, there's also a rather new Guardians of the Galaxy video game where you can enjoy the "heroic" efforts from Peter Quill, the Missourian.
