David Bowie-Themed ‘Speed of Life’ Movie Trailer Released
A new movie focuses on how David Bowie's unexpected passing impacted a fictional couple. Watch the just-released trailer for Speed of Life below.
"In 2016, David Bowie's death creates a rift in time and space," according to a synopsis from the film's screening at the Atlanta Film Festival earlier this year. "June and Edward are in the midst of an argument when Edward suddenly falls into the wormhole created by Bowie's death, vanishing without a trace. In 2040, June continues to mourn the loss of Edward while facing the dark reality of her approaching 60th birthday, when she will be locked away along with the rest of her society's senior citizens. Unwilling to disappear, June begins to plan her escape when Edward suddenly reappears in her life. June has spent 24 years without Edward, but for Edward it has been mere moments."
Speed of Life was named after the opening track from 1977's Low. Written and directed by Liz Manashil, the movie stars Allison Tolman (Fargo) and Ray Santiago (Meet the Fockers) as the young couple; Ann Dowd (The Handmaid's Tale) plays the older version of June. This is Manashil's second feature film, following 2014's Bread and Butter.
The movie will be released on Jan. 10, 2020, the fourth anniversary of Bowie's death, on Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play and other streaming services.
Another film about Bowie, the biopic Stardust, is currently in production. Johnny Flynn stars in a plot that reportedly centers on the 1971 U.S. tour that resulted in the birth of Bowie's Ziggy Stardust character. The movie isn't authorized by Bowie's estate, and Duncan Jones has said that his father's music will not be included.
