As many will be traveling from family Christmas celebrations, it's important to note that much of Missouri will be impacted by dangerous fog that could make driving treacherous in places.

As darkness approaches in Missouri on Christmas Day, the National Weather Service in St. Louis has issued a dense fog advisory as many parts of the state will experience greatly reduced visibility beginning Wednesday evening until 9am Thursday morning.

It's not uncommon to see fog in the late night or early morning hours in Missouri this time of year especially near waterways. But, the advisory isn't restricted to the parts of the state near the Mississippi River as even counties far to the west are warned that fog will be an issue beginning Wednesday night and carrying over into the middle part of Thursday morning.

If you're traveling Thursday night or early Friday, expect that your visibility will be limited. The fact that this fog is coming at a time when even more drivers will be on the road than normal just makes caution all the more important.
