Cool Off This Summer in The Best Swimming Holes in Illinois
I know gas prices are high, but if you're looking to get away and take a road trip this summer you might want to put these swimming holes on your list to visit.
Kinkaid Lake - Murphysboro
This swimming hole is located in southern Illinois in Murphysboro. The lake is over 2,700 acres and is surrounded by a huge forest. There's plenty to do other than swimming at this lake, you can hike, fish, boating, camping, and explore around the lake.
Lake Le-Aqua-Na State Park
This state park has its own beach which just recently opened on Memorial Day weekend and will remain open through Labor Day Weekend. This beach is perfect for kids to do some swimming and build sand castles. This lake is special because it's man-made and is close to 40-acres and contains the clearest water you will ever see in Ilinois which is great so you can see what you are swimming with other than fish (if you know what I mean).
Silver Springs State Park
Named for the way the water sparkles in the sun, Silver Springs State Park is located five miles west of Yorkville. Even though most of the swimming is done in the summer, the most amazing feature happens in the winter. No matter how cold it gets in the winter the pool never freezes and people come to take in the site every winter.
For relaxing, exercising or just enjoying nature, Silver Springs is the perfect getaway location.
No matter where you swim whether it's in a pool or a swimming hole you find just remember to have fun, relax, and be careful.
