Someone in Missouri Left this Box of Puppies Outside in the Cold
Fortunately, this is a story that has a happy ending, but it almost didn't go that way. Someone in Missouri left a box of puppies outside in the cold, but fortunately heroes came to the rescue.
The Central Missouri Humane Society shared this update last night about what they found outside behind one of their worker's vehicle.
I'm trying to imagine what the person who left this box of puppies outside was thinking. Just guessing that they figured that the shelter would take in the puppies, but what if one of the workers hadn't spotted the box? Many shelters in Missouri ask that those who drop off animals pay a care fee and maybe they didn't have any money. That's giving the person the benefit of the doubt and not just assuming they're a careless monster. I have worked with so many Missouri shelters over the years and there is not one that I know of that would have turned these puppies away if someone brought them inside and couldn't afford to pay.
Let's be clear. What this person did was reprehensible. It's almost miraculous that a worker at the shelter noticed the box instead of just driving away. Considering how cold it has been in Missouri the past few days, those puppies would not have lasted long outside especially with the wind chills the state has experienced.
The Central Missouri Humane Society says these puppies will be available for adoption in a week if the owner doesn't return. Considering how they dropped them off, we can safely assume that's not gonna happen. Hopefully truly caring families will give these cute dogs great homes. They deserve better than to be abandoned in a box in the middle of a Missouri winter night.
