While much of the area communities are shut down, Salvation Army Social Services programs are continuing to provide much needed services. Caseworkers are helping people with financial and housing needs mostly through phone calls and emails. According to Quincy Salvation Army Family Services Case Manager Tom Fish they are also getting inquiries from people who have recently been unemployed or furloughed. The Salvation Army Family Services offers the food pantry and breadline, but it also provides assistance with rent and utilities.

Donations of non-perishable food items, toiletries, and paper goods are all being accepted at this time. Since the building is closed to the general public, anyone wanting to donate items is asked to call 217-222-2087 before dropping off donations. At this time the greatest needs are toiletries since the Emergency Shelter is onsite as well. Once a drop-off time is set, donations can be brought to the facility at 501 Broadway in Quincy.

As the weeks have progressed the staff has seen the need for rent and utilities assistance slowly increase. Since evictions and shut-offs are not allowed during this shelter-in-place time the need isn’t as great. But Fish believes once the order is lifted a big wave for rent and utilities assistance will occur.

Therefore, monetary donations are greatly appreciated at this time. Donations can be mailed to PO Box 75 Quincy, IL 62301. To give via text, simply text “DonateQuincy” to 24365 or to give online, visit www.salvationarmyqcyhan.org/donate.

Anyone needing assistance or who has questions regarding services is encouraged to reach out to The Salvation Army at 217-222-2087.
