67 Remote Workers Were Suddenly Fired in Missouri
A few years ago, working remote was all the rage. Now, it's becoming less possible in some cases as 67 workers in Missouri just learned as they were suddenly let go according to documents submitted to the state.
The newest WARN notice on the Missouri Jobs site shows 67 workers in Missouri were given their walking papers a few days ago notifying them that May 24, 2025 would be their last day. It comes from Block, Inc which is the company that Jack Dorsey is the CEO of. He is the guy that co-founded Twitter many years ago.
The website Inc (not related to Block Inc) reported that Jack Dorsey informed all of the workers who were being let go directly himself. The report says that nearly 1,000 across the country were affected including the 67 working remotely in Missouri. The reasons he gave for the layoffs were interesting. He said that members of teams who were "off strategy" were let go and those whose performance was trending downward.
It's never good news when someone loses their job, but at least you have to respect the fact that the CEO did it himself instead of letting someone in his HR department do the dirty deed.
The Missouri Jobs site shows that more than 1,700 Missourians have lost their jobs already in 2025 so far.
