I would guess that nearly everyone knows about the legend of a creature that was seen decades ago in a small southern Illinois community. Now there are newly-discovered police reports that prove those Illinois beast sightings were very real.

Kudos to master storyteller Base Camp Chris for the discovery of police reports from June of 1976 from Murphysboro, Illinois proving that the reports from a 12-year-old boy of a bizarre creature were not imagination. Check out this snapshot from the night of June 19, 1976 from the Murphysboro, Illinois police department.

What did the 12-year-old Illinois boy see in 1976?

The boy had ridden his bike to a remote area near town where people would dispose of their used appliances. He saw a creature who towered over a washing machine. At first he thought it was a person, but after the creature stood up, he could see that the height of whatever it was stood much higher than a human being could. It was extremely hairy with very long arms and would become known as the Big Muddy Monster due to the proximity of the Big Muddy River. Even the city of Murphysboro has embraced what many reported seeing that summer.

What did that boy see that night in June in 1976? Whatever it was is officially on a police report for all to see. As it turns out, the legend is more truth than many people realized until now.
