Best Buy Has Closed 24 Stores, 1 in Missouri, 15 More to Follow?
I keep hoping that somehow we'll see a turn for the better for brick and mortar retail stores. Unfortunately, that rebound has yet to happen for stores like Best Buy who has already closed 24 stores including at least 1 in Missouri and reports say that up to 15 more will follow.
We've already seen some Best Buy closures in Missouri and Illinois over the last year, but this recent report by KABC noticed something in a Best Buy earnings call that I was not aware of. The full transcript reveals even more details, but here's the short version:
Best Buy has closed a total of 24 stores during this fiscal year and that includes 1 Missouri location
The earnings call says that the chain will close an additional 10 to 15 stores in the upcoming fiscal year.
I'm curious if that process has either already begun or will in the near future based on the current status of one Best Buy location in St. Joseph, Missouri. The official Best Buy page still shows it is an active store, but the Google listing says it's "temporarily closed" and the official Best Buy page shows that it's closed for the foreseeable future.
It could be that the store is going through a remodel, but that would seem odd for a relatively small location in St. Joseph.
I'm no financial expert and I am not trying to speculate especially when people's jobs are potentially in jeopardy. We all knew about the 24 Best Buy closings this year, but the additional 10 to 15 to come is new. Time will tell if it will affect any or many of the 20 remaining Best Buy stores in Missouri.
