I've heard so many declarations of the most dangerous place in Missouri that I've become almost numb to it. However, a new one caught my attention when it claimed that it's no longer St. Louis, Kansas City or Springfield. But, there's a catch.

If you Google "Missouri's most dangerous places" (don't do it), you'll see there's a new one among the results from Area Vibes. I looked out of pure curiosity and could not believe my eyes when one of the big 3 weren't topping the list. It looks like St. Louis, Kansas City and Springfield are off the hook - for now.

The methodology behind this new danger ranking in Missouri is an interesting one and I think it's one of the fairer ways to decide if a place is really dangerous. They counted how many crimes happen every day and the chance that you'll be a victim.

In the Area Vibes list, Springfield is the 5th most dangerous with St. Louis now ranked as the 4th and Kansas City is 2nd.

What is the new #1 most dangerous place in Missouri?

It's Berkeley, Missouri where 7.7 crimes happen every single day and you have a terrifying 1 in 36 chance of being a victim of a violent crime. By comparison, in Kansas City, you have a 1 in 68 chance of being a victim which is the same danger rate for St. Louis.

One could argue that Berkeley is really still the St. Louis area and that's true, but it is a very specific part of the metro area and one that sadly can be deadly more often than not. Surely when metro areas get measured, Berkeley is one of the reasons why St. Louis ends up on the top of these awful lists.
