What’s this Big Nest in Missouri? Hint – It’s NOT Squirrels
The fact that I'm a curious person tends to get me into trouble. In this case, it could have been trouble, but ended up with a very happy ending. Have you see a big nest like this in Missouri? Despite what many think, it's not for squirrels.
I drive past this huge nest every day that is situated next to a major highway in Missouri. If you were heading north and looked off to your right, it would look something like this.
If this isn't a squirrel's nest, what is it?
Admittedly, you can't tell much from that distance. Fortunately, my phone camera has epic zoom so I was able to pull over to the side of the highway (yes, I used my warning signals, thank you very much) and captured this picture.
Yes, that is a bald eagle watching over her nest. No squirrel would dare come near this bunch of sticks and leaves. Even from a distance, it appears that she was aware that I was taking her picture as she looked my way.
I won't disclose the exact location because I don't want to take the chance that someone would get close to this proud symbol of America and disturb her. For the record, it is a federal crime to get too close to a bald eagle or disturb their nest.
This is one of those simple moments in Missouri when you can see something sweet just by letting nature be nature.
