Furniture Stores Close Suddenly—Illinois Included
The retail struggle continues as a big furniture chain has decided to close more stores and that includes Illinois.
Brick and mortar retail stores continue to look for a successful way forward as they compete with online options. You would think that a local furniture store would have an advantage over relying on an online retailer to successfully ship a sofa, but in this case that has not proven true. According to USA Today, furniture retailer At Home has decided to close more stores after they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy just over a month ago. Among the stores that will close, there are 3 locations in Illinois that will be affected:
101 Randall Road in Lake in the Hills, Illinois
5203 W. War Memorial Drive in Peoria, Illinois
13180 S. Cicero Ave. in Crestwood, Illinois
The report says that At Home plans to close these Illinois stores no later than September 30, 2025 and liquidation sales are underway as we speak. It's unclear if this new round of closures will be all of the stores that are shuttered or if more are to come. Since chapter 11 bankruptcy is an attempt at reorganization, let's hope this will return this chain and other brick and mortar retailers back to greater success and less closures.
