It all started when an armed burglar allegedly broke into the basement of a Monticello, Iowa home. What the alleged thief did not know was the homeowner was also armed which led to the man paying the ultimate price.

Fox News is one of the outlets reporting that police responded to a 911 call where they found a man who was identified as Patrick O'Brine dead from gunshot wounds. According to their report, he allegedly was wearing a mask and armed when he broke into a basement window of a Monticello, Iowa home.

Iowa News Now is reporting that the home was owned by a 44-year-old man who's name has not been released. He was at home with his 10-year-old son at the time of the alleged break-in. The report says that as soon as the man saw the masked intruder, he fired his weapon 3 times hitting Patrick O'Brine twice. They report that the 44-year-old man and his son were not injured.

Iowa News Now is also reporting that Monticello, Iowa police are still investigating this case. This story will be updated if new information is provided by authorities.
