The Illinois Secretary of State, Jesse White, made an announcement earlier this week on changes coming on how you renew your driver's license and ID cards in Quincy.

The Quincy location (2512 Locust St.) is one of many locations throughout the state where you will need to make an appointment for a driver's test, regular ID cards, and REAL ID cards starting in 2022. Almost everything now can be done online including renewing driver's license/state ID cards, address change, license plates renewal, and license plates/sticker replacement for your car. I've done this online and there is a small fee in order to do these items online, but in my opinion, it's worth it now more than ever to not have to make an appointment and go through that process.

To make an appointment, customers are asked to go online to ilsos.gov for faster access to available appointments each day. There is a hotline number to call for any assistance you may need that you can find online or for people who are blind, visually impaired, disabled, veterans, and don't have access to make an appointment online. That number is 844-817-4649.

There are a few exceptions to this new procedure. Secretary White stated

seniors, veterans, persons with disabilities and expectant mothers will be served as win-ins at all of the designed appointment facilities. They also have the option to make an appointment.

These changes will go into effect on January 27, 2022, for the Quincy location. there are some DMV's that have already implemented the appointment-only feature to cut down on the amount of traffic in a facility at one time, and White announced that he will be expanding the locations for 2022. With the COVID pandemic, the Illinois Sectrteyay of State has been finding ways to make it easier for people to not have to go to their location driver's license facility and has moved a lot of their services online. There are some things you have to do at the facility and you will now need to make appointments for that.
