One of my most memorable trips as a kid was to Abraham Lincoln historical sites in Springfield, Illinois. Now, there's a new but still somber look at Abraham Lincoln's first and only Illinois home plus his final resting place.

If you've somehow never made the trip to Springfield, Illinois to explore Abraham Lincoln's life and eventual tragic death, it really is a must-do thing. Here are some snapshots captured from 2 recent video visits to his home and grave site.

I will never forget entering Lincoln's tomb and seeing the words engraved on the wall "Now he belongs to the ages". That's one of those moments in my childhood I'll never forget. Hard to fathom that his remains were just a few feet below that solemn place.

There's also the interesting and disturbing story of how grave robbers tried to steal his body and how it was decades before his body really did rest in peace.

Springfield, Illinois certainly does not lack history and Abraham Lincoln is at the heart of it all.
