Who Was Most Snubbed by the 2016 Grammys Nominations?
Every year, immediately following the announcement of the Grammys nominations, the public bands together in a shared outcry of "Wait, WHAT? What about X? They forgot Y! How did Z not get a nomination this year?" And, you know what? More often than not, they're right.
The fact is that each year, there are always some glaring oversights — and the upcoming 2016 ceremony is certainly no exception. In fact, there were plenty of outrageous snubs.
Taylor Swift's 1989 nomination sweep was of no surprise to anyone. But there was another excellent, '80s-themed pop record that came out this year to widespread critical acclaim: Carly Rae Jepsen's E•MO•TION, which has wound up on dozens of Best Of 2015 lists — including our own. The injustice is overwhelming.
How has Tinashe not received a nomination for Best New Artist? Meghan Trainor was nominated in the category...after being nominated for "All About That Bass" last year. What even? Halsey just sold out Madison Square Garden and...nothing? Shawn Mendes successfully crossed over from Vine sensation to singer-songwriter superstar. Nada? And we're still shutting Lana Del Rey and Marina And The Diamonds out entirely? Really?
There've been some amazing hits that got paid dust too, from Jason Derulo's "Want To Want Me" to Years & Years' "King" and "Desire" to Fetty Wap's seemingly endless string of Hot 100 smashes.
So, we'll turn this one over to you now: Who really, really needs justice? Who got the most snubbed the nominations yesterday? Did we, like the Grammys committee, miss one or two? Let us know in the comments below.
