There are many things that happen in Missouri that I believe are done better than any other part of America, but sub sandwiches are one of our specialities including one that is a St. Louis, Missouri legend.

What makes a sub great in your opinion? I think it's safe to say that the best of the best are how well the different food elements work together. That's one reason why Cheapism just chose a Missouri sub as one of the best in America.

Ruma's Deli in St. Louis, Missouri was spotlighted for their excellent Gerber sandwich. If you look at Ruma's menu, you'll see them describe the Gerber sandwich as an "open-faced ham sandwich with melted garlic butter and provel cheese. It's the latter that no one outside of St. Louis seems to understand. Provel cheese is the difference maker who they describe as "a processed blend of mozzarella, provolone, and Swiss cheeses native to St. Louis" and you can mix and match the meats to make the Gerber what you want it to be.
