If you're interested in being near some history without living without modern conveniences, I have found a place in Missouri you'll likely love. It used to be a smokehouse when it was built in the 1800's, but now it includes a sweet pool and also  has lots of lovable livestock nearby.

This is known as the Cozy Cabin Retreat near Union, Missouri. I found it on Airbnb with the following description by the host Amanda:

This renovated smoke house from the 1800's is the perfect rustic getaway! Located just about an hour west of downtown St. Louis on a working farm with chickens, turkeys, pigs, sheep, and guineas.

Amanda's not kidding about the livestock either. See her pics for yourself from the Airbnb listing.

This 1800's Missouri Smokehouse Now Has Baby Lambs & a Sweet Pool

What a unique place. I don't know that I've ever seen a building from 1800's Missouri equipped with so many modern conveniences like that pool around. As you might have guessed, it's not free to stay at. The nightly cost is $125 as of this writing. "Peaceful", "Cozy" and "Elegant" were among the adjectives used by those that stayed there in the reviews.
