I want to make it clear that I am a fan of anything that's a great value no matter if it's a brand name or not. The internet is advising Missouri people (because the internet knows best) to avoid 7 specific 'Great Value' foods at all costs. I do not agree with them.

The interesting thing about this crusade against "Great Value" products in Missouri is it's coming from a lot of different directions. I've even seen NASDAQ (yes the stock market site) get it on this food avoidance thing involving Walmart. The Daily Meal, Mashed and Eat This Not That are also guilty.

The reason the "experts" want Missourians to avoid these Great Value foods involves nutrition (and I allege bias). Here are the top ones they call out in no particular order.

Missouri should avoid Great Value Cheese Puffs they say.

The Daily Meal doesn't like Great Value Cheese Puffs or the Hot Cheese Crunch either because of all the food dyes they contain. I, for one, actually like the taste of food dyes, so sue me.

17 grams of added sugar isn't a good thing? I am in shock, but still like them. Call me crazy, but sugar gets me through the day.

Yes, it only has 1 gram of protein, but Missouri loves anything with "cookie" and "butter" in the name. I sure do.

Mashed is not a fan of Great Value Milk (even the organic kind). I prefer to save money and get this milk anyway. I don't care if my milk comes from plastic cows.

Don't get breakfast sandwiches with 1200 grams of sodium Mashed says. I say they're way too picky.

The Daily Meal is not a fan of Great Value snack cakes of any kind. They think 19 grams of sugar in a serving is excessive. To each his/her own.

The Daily Meal also thinks Missouri should avoid the Great Value Pepperoni since it doesn't have enough protein for them. Isn't pepperoni just pepperoni? I guess not.
