There are few locomotives in America with a more rich history than the Union Pacific Big Boy. The 2026 tour is about to begin and it will eventually include multiple stops in Missouri according to the most recent update from the company.

The Union Pacific Big Boy has announced it's celebrating America's 250th birthday with a tour across the country. The western leg just kicked off at the end of March as it departed Cheyenne, Wyoming and headed west to California.

When will the Big Boy head eastward toward Missouri?

Here's what Union Pacific has shared about the eastward trek of this legendary locomotive:

"After a multi-day locomotive maintenance period, the Coast-to-Coast Steam Tour will resume with the eastern leg on May 25. A detailed schedule for the eastern leg will be released at a later date".

Union Pacific goes on to mention Missouri specifically, though, saying they anticipate display dates in:

  • St. Louis, Missouri
  • Kansas CIty, Missouri

Since they plan to kick off the eastern leg on May 25, I would guess they'll release specific arrival dates for Missouri within the next few weeks if not before. If you've never witnessed this iconic locomotive, don't miss it once it heads toward Missouri. It's truly an awe-inspiring big iron beast.
