I will admit that this is a wild theory, but there is some real history that it is at least based in some fact. Nearly 150 years ago, there were reports that an ancient lost city was found 360 feet under Missouri, but someone covered it up. I can prove the reports happened and are not just conspiracy theory.

This topic has been shared recently by several content creators on YouTube alleging that there was a city discovered under Missouri and that the government is covering it up. As astounding as this claim sounds, they're not wrong.

I did some research and on my own and found out there is real history here. On April 9, 1885, The New York Times reported this: Missouri's Buried City: A Strange Discovery in a Coal Mine Near Moberly, Missouri. That's not an extreme conspiracy theory website. That's as mainstream as it gets especially in 1885.

The city of Moberly, Mo., is stirred up over the discovery of a wonderful buried city, which was discovered at the bottom of a coal shaft, 360 feet deep, which was being sunk near the city.

Oh, and one other thing. The original report stated there were giant bones found in the coal mine, too.

But, wait. Not everyone believes this report was true after all

Jason Colavito included the full text of the original New York Times report, but added that it was "a hoax" and that the paper later retracted the story. If that is true, why does The New York Times still have it available in their archives?

Another reason why I'm curious if there was some type of coverup is the fact that the Smithsonian has worked hard to shut down any talk of giant bones in the past. Why should this be any different?

Do I believe there's a lost city under Moberly, Missouri? I'm not even close to being willing to take that leap of faith, but I would love a look inside Moberly Coal Mine #5 sometime to see if there anything underground that might be...interesting. I'll gladly bring my own shovel, too.
